Well, here we are. We're sitting in a Cyber Cafe in Edmonton, Alberta (Canada's most boring city, apparently) having just been bilked out of a quite extraordinary amount of money for lugging around our bikes. Fifty bucks each for the plane of course, then fifteen each extra for the shuttle into the city, and then an additional 35 each for the greyhound to Jasper, where we are to start riding at about 3 am tomorrow, when the bus arrives there. This is, of course, in addition to the costs of transporting our bodies from place to place. Oh well. We're both really stoked, however. The enormity of the ride is just dawning on me, at least; looking down at the Canadian Rockies from the plane window was a little scary in the what-the-hell-did-we-get-ourselves-into kind of way, but the weather is beautiful and warm - perfect for riding. Just a short ride tomorrow - about 30 miles to Honeymoon Lake Campground, right in Jasper National Park. The days are long up here - we're at around 53 degrees north. Neither of us can wait for that first sunrise tomorrow morning, the alpenglow chasing down the peaks of the Rockies as we assemble our bikes and pull out of the Jasper Greyhound station. The next few days will be some of the toughest of the trip, as we traverse the great passes of the range up to 7,000 feet. I'm nervous about the climbs, and monumentally stoked for the descents. Check back soon. |

It's just the two of us. Turns out the chick who we've been in contact with can't take that much time off of work. Oh well. She probably couldn't have handled the constant redneck humor that Clint and I live on but which others, for some strange reason, find monotonous. Check out the pics from our previous tours; there's one gallery for each, and more photos and descriptions should be coming along soon. |

Well, I'm back from Australia, and Clint and I are getting ready to embark on our attempt at the Adventure Cycling Association's Great Parks route . We're flying up to Jasper, Alberta on May 30, and the idea is to catch a train from Denver back to Sacramento some time around June 28th or so. We're biting off quite a bit more of the touring hickory-smoked meat log this time than we have in the past; 30 days of big mountains and few bike shops. I'm especially nervous, because my left knee has been having some issues for the past few months - still is, in fact - but I've been told by three different medical professionals to quit whining and go on my trip. So I'm going. We may or may not have a friend with us on this trip; a nice young lady named Brenna has told us she's interested in riding with us, but looks as though perhaps we miscommunicated our repective schedules, and she think we're going in July. We'll see what happens, though. For now, stay tuned. We'll try to update the site as often as a computer presents itself, and I'll figure out how to upload photos one of these days. |
